Developments pioneered by Dr. Michael Leu

  1. The THREE APPOINTMENTS TECHNIQUE Almost all patients who have been treated under the THREE APPOINTMENTS TECHNIQUE are already quite normal patients.
  2. ANAESTHESIA TECHNIQUE WITHOUT LOCAL ANAESTHETIC (The Munich Anaesthesia Technique Without Local Anaesthetic). This technique does not involve local anaesthetic while the patient is anaesthetized. The effect is particularly impressive for dental phobic patients, because they almost never experience pain or swelling following treatment. Painkillers are rendered superfluous in most cases.

The combination of the THREE APPOINTMENTS TECHNIQUE with the ANAESTHESIA TECHNIQUE WITHOUT LOCAL ANAESTHETIC has already been proven in more than 2000 patients.
These two techniques have been developed in the course of treating problematic dental patients over the course of 10 years. University research into these techniques commenced at the end of 2002. The research is being coordinated by Dr. Oliver Ahlers, research assistant at the University of Eppendorf.
  3. special communication techniques for dentists in dealing with patients suffering from dental anxiety and dental phobia.

Findings by Dr. Michael Leu's practice, the first dental practice to treat dental phobic patients exclusively

  1. Dental phobic patients quickly lose their phobia if they are treated under general anaesthetic and their malocclusion is taken into account. They then remain free of their phobia. It is important to take care of all dental problems during anaesthesia. Dental treatment should not be extended over several sessions of anaesthesia.
  2. irtually all dental phobic patients have a malocclusion. Normally this problem only occurs in every tenth patient.
  3. A large number of dental phobic patients have extensive fissures throughout their dentition. These fissures are virtually undetectable with the naked eye. Bacteria can penetrate into these gaps, but patients are unable to clean between these narrow gaps with a toothbrush. The consequences are caries, pulpitis, decay, etc. It is necessary to put the assertion by dentists that a clean tooth is a healthy tooth into perspective.
  4. Dispensing with local anaesthetic for anaesthetizing patients during extensive dental and surgical treatment means that patients almost never experience pain or swelling following treatment.
